I’ve been pretty good about not adding anything new to my stash of makeup. it’s helped that the weather is now too hot to wear a lot of anything, including on my face. but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been stockpiling things in my virtual shopping cart; I just haven’t pulled the trigger.
these new nars eyeshadows are calling my name loudly – they look absolutely gorgeous. I’ve mentioned wanting that eyeshadow palette before, and yup, I still want it and it’s still not mine (see? I told you I’ve been good). I’ve gotten more and more into hair products ever since I got the best haircut of my life, and the new bumble and bumble invisible oil line is really piquing my interest, the oil and primer, especially. soft, frizz-free hair without any added weight or oiliness?! yes, please. I’m running out of concealer, and I’m tempted to try the laura mercier secret concealer because of the many great reviews and because lately, my undereye area needs all the help it can get. and as for the bump fix, it is well and truly swimwear season…enough said.
I mentioned last week that I was officially a student again. when I was thinking about going back to school, I knew I didn’t want to take out new loans. so in order for me to fund school, I would have to keep working and lower expenses. our biggest expense, like most people, is rent, and after crunching the numbers and doing the math, living at home while I do my program was far and away the best way to cut back on expenses. my parents have graciously welcomed James and me back and are supportive of our plan, so we will be moving out of our apartment and into a 12 x 14 bedroom come August.
this new space needs to be both a retreat for James and me and a study space of sorts. the only way those two objectives are going to be met is through functional furniture. the bedroom comes with a 5′ closet that has decent hanging space but no shelf space save for one long shelf above the hanging rod. to give us more functionality, we’ll be adding an 8-drawer dresser that provides ample storage for folded clothes without being massive, drawer organizers to use with it, storage boxes to store linens and out of season clothes, and slim shoe storage organizers that will take advantage of the closet floor space. we’re also going to be buying some pant hangers to go with our slimline hangers to maximize the hanging space.
outside of the closet, we’ll be using a queen-sized bed that has built in storage. I’d like to add a mirror, both for its space-magnifying capability and also to help with getting dressed in the morning. this one has hooks at the back for jewelry/belts and a little clothes rack where you can hang the next morning’s clothes, so it’s adding even more storage.
and for studying, I’m eyeing this compact desk with built-in storage and the complementary drawer/file system. side by side, they take up less than 5′ in length but would give me a little corner to study and keep all of my school things in one place. since I’m anticipating having to be at a desk for a decent amount of time daily, I’d like a chair that has some back support. I’m considering this one but I’m not sold on it yet and might want to find something that takes up a little less space.
you might be thinking, ‘back to school in june?’ well, that’s because as of this morning, I am officially a student again, albeit part time. I just finished registering for fall classes as I pursue a nursing degree. this has been a long time coming and now that I’m actually beginning a new academic track, I can’t help but get excited at what’s next in store. I loved school supply shopping when I was a younger student and that hasn’t changed. this week’s wishlist is a more grownup school supply list. I have a fondness for extra fine-point pens, sleek desk accessories, and nice paper. I prefer to write on dotted or quad ruled paper rather than regular lined paper. I’m also wishing for a new, ultra light laptop that will be easy to lug around and an updated version of the tote I carried around during my college days.

I’ve got jewelry on the brain. as always, baublebar is churning out some things that I’m loving, including some stud sets that make me want to get more ear piercings. surprisingly, I’ve been loving a lot of the jewelry from madewell lately. in the past, their pieces have not been my style, but I’m loving the touches of cobalt blue and the dainty geometric pieces of their recent offerings. I’ve been gravitating away from more bold statement necklaces to more delicate pieces with interesting details. how adorable is that lariat nautical necklace (#7)? and I’m definitely stalking #1 until it comes back in stock.
happy hump day!
eyeshadow palette | water bottle | book | travel case set | bag | flower pot
if this assortment of wants seems random, it is. :). it’s a little of this and a little of that. I may have found the bucket bag, and that travel case set is so chic. I would love to bring both with me on our trip to Boston in July, so I’m counting my pennies now. I’m also itching to get a jump start on my summer reading and first on that list is Truman, who is actually my favorite President. now you know that I’m a nerd at heart. as for that neutral eyeshadow palette, I certainly don’t need it, but neutral eyeshadow palettes – along with striped shirts, asian rice, and cute stationery – are my kryptonite, and well, it’s a wishlist, right?
