loving right now

perfume | mascara | earrings | watch | tee

a perfume that smells like the ocean. I have been looking for this scent for years. while beach-inspired fragrances are not uncommon, I’ve found that fragrances that truly capture the ocean are harder to come by. what I love about this scent is the hint of salt and earthiness that mingles with the more typical watery notes, and the fact that this does not have any hint of a sunscreen/coconuty note. call it nostalgia, but this smells exactly like the ocean by my hometown – I think it’s the seaweed note that really brings it home for me. (bonus: the bottle & color are gorgeous!)

a waterproof mascara that doesn’t give me raccooon eyes. my lucky streak continues in finally chancing upon a long-searched-for product. I love makeup, but I don’t have the time to reapply or worry about things smudging, whether I’m busy on the floor or just out and about in my personal life. #aintnobodygottimeforthat I’ve always been envious of my girlfriends who can wear any mascara from the drugstore and have lashes for days that stay put, but I’ve never had such luck, aside from the L’Oreal Telescopic waterproof, which, of course, is now discontinued. ::side eye emoji:: prior to this discovery, I was using the YSL Faux Cils waterproof, which gave me all the volume I wanted but sometimes I still had a small amount of flaking/smudging. so far, Monsieur Big  has been completely flake- and smudge-proof. I’ll let you know if that changes, but so far, it’s love.

demi-fine jewelry that won’t break the bank. it’s nice to see more & more retailers offering demi-fine jewelry. it’s a great option for those of us who want some pieces of jewelry that are higher quality but still budget friendly. aside from these hoops, my husband also bought me this necklace, and I’m really pleased with the quality of both pieces.

a watch with a cause. along with my wedding rings, I wear a watch every single day. as someone who prefers using a watch to tell time, I feel naked on the rare occasions I forget to put one on. I have several watches in my collection, the newest of which is this mon amie healthcare watch. aside from being a beautiful watch that looks good, I love that it’s also a watch that does good. being a nurse and a future women’s healthcare provider, this watch has such a special meaning to me as it provides one year of prenatal care to a woman in need. (p.s. all health watches are 20% off for Mother’s Day with code ‘MAMA20’ – the new mesh version is so lovely!)

a tee that combines 2 of my great loves: nursing & languages. I squealed when I saw this tee. scrubs should be, first & foremost, functional, but it doesn’t hurt when they’re pretty, too. as a treat to myself for nurses week, I bought myself a new set of scrubs and this tee.  it was just too good to pass up. (btw, would anyone be interested in a review of FIGS scrubwear? let me know!)

all ears

while I do love statement jewelry when the occasion calls for it, I tend to favor small, delicate pieces in my day-to-day. I’ll usually just have a pair of studs in my ears, my wedding & engagement rings, and a watch. sometimes I’ll switch out the studs for something a little bigger, or keep the studs and add a necklace.

but lately, I’ve been really LOVING statement earrings. it started with this pair. I saw them online and ordered them because they reminded me of the pair I wore to death in high school. they’re light, go with everything, and are just big enough to make a statement despite being fairly simple.

that pair was my gateway drug. I’ve since bought 3 more pairs: this fun beaded pair (look so much more expensive than they are), this gorgeous pair (surprisingly light on the ears & now under $13), and this amazing pair that I pre-ordered (this one confirmed that I was well & truly hooked).

if you had told me a couple of months ago that I would be ordering those earrings, I would have said you were crazy. I know statement earrings are very much the trend right now, so maybe I’m just getting swept up in the wave, at least partly, but mostly I think it’s because they’re just fun to wear and fun is something I’ve needed in large doses since moving out east. wearing them is like a little party on your ears, and they make me smile. and really, is there a better reason to wear jewelry than that?

jewelry storage

I’ve recently gone through my jewelry stash and edited it down to the pieces I truly love and, more importantly, wear all the time. I’m itching to get some pretty storage to showcase my most-loved pieces, and these caught my eye. urban outfitters has been so on point lately with their home pieces…I’m especially loving anything geometric in design.

happy tuesday!

sentimental jewelry

jewelry6there are pieces of jewelry in my collection that are priceless to me for their sentimental value. they hold pride of place in a special drawer in my jewelry box. whenever I see them, I can’t help but smile as I’m reminded of the people & memories that they represent.jewelry4this necklace belonged to my mom’s great aunt, whose birth month was also november. when she passed, my mother gave it to me and let me know that it had been earmarked for me since I was born.

jewelry3this ring is special, not just because it has my name, but because of its provenance. I left the philippines when I was 6 and didn’t return until I was 12. on that occasion, my aunts all took their gold rings and had them melted down to create this band as a belated birthday present. they said it was for 6 years’ worth of birthdays that they had missed. the goldsmith in my hometown in the philippines then engraved my name and the design by hand. jewelry9these two pieces were both presents from james in the early days of our relationship. the ring has 3 little sapphires and marked our 3-month anniversary which fell on Christmas Eve and marked our first Christmas together. the necklace was the first valentine’s day present he ever gave me. he told me how he had gone to the tiffany store and nervously picked out the charm and chain with the help of a nice sales assistant. I can’t believe we’ll have been together for 7 years come this september.

wish list wednesday | baubles

I’ve got jewelry on the brain. as always, baublebar is churning out some things that I’m loving, including some stud sets that make me want to get more ear piercings. surprisingly, I’ve been loving a lot of the jewelry from madewell lately. in the past, their pieces have not been my style, but I’m loving the touches of cobalt blue and the dainty geometric pieces of their recent offerings. I’ve been gravitating away from more bold statement necklaces to more delicate pieces with interesting details. how adorable is that lariat nautical necklace (#7)? and I’m definitely stalking #1 until it comes back in stock.

happy hump day!
