most days, I’m running out the door with a KIND bar and my coffee tumbler in my left hand and my keys in my right, my coffee dangerously close to spilling. I don’t have the time to have a proper breakfast, much less a 20-minute makeup session in front of my vanity. usually, 5 minutes is all I get, if I’m lucky, so I’ve become a little bit of an expert on ‘the 5 minute face’ (or so I’d like to think). the biggest trick is realizing that in 5 minutes, full-on glamour is not what you’re after – it’s making yourself look well-rested and presentable even if you are running out the door like a madwoman.
this week’s five-minute face:
base | jouer luminizing moisture tint in deep bronze. the latest addition to my base stash. I’ve been reaching for this because it gives me glowing lightweight coverage that instantly makes me look like I’m awake. this applies like a dream with just my fingers.
eyeshadow | the maybelline color tattoo eyeshadows were made for the 5-minute face. creamy and easy to apply with fingers, they’re great for an all-over lid color that’s easy to blend and lasts for hours, even without primer. today I used sleek & spice all over the lid and and pure nude on the inside corner.
eyeliner | for a noticeable but soft line, I use my prestige eyeliner in black-brown. I apply it on the outer half of my top and bottom water line, just to give definition without going over the top.
eyelashes | 2 steps: curl and apply. curling my eyelashes is the fastest way to make myself look alive. I have small eyes that suddenly look bigger and more alert with a few pumps of my shu uemura eyelash curler. my go-to mascara is the l’oreal telescopic, the waterproof version. waterproof = no smudging when you’re sweating up a storm running out the door. the brush is genius – slim and flexible, it really lets me get at the roots and corner lashes without clumping.
lips | I’m not skilled enough to apply a bold lip color when I’m under the clock, so I reach for a gloss. lately I’ve been loving the bobbi brown lipgloss in nectar…surprise, surprise.
touch-ups | the last 30 seconds are spent double checking that everything is good to go – concealer blended, eyes both lined, mascara dry (important when you wear glasses).
