incredibly happy to find this shirt while surfing the web. sartorially on-point, reasonably priced, and the best thing of  all: 50% of the price will be donated to the American Red Cross for typhoon relief efforts in the Philippines.

‘Pinas, I miss you already.

playing favorites: february

hey, you guys! I’m back! I can’t believe February’s almost over! I got back from the Philippines on Monday, but I’ve been completely wiped out by the combination of insane jet lag, a horrible cough/cold that just won’t quit, and an overflowing work pile. I cannot even tell you how happy I am that it’s Friday. I’m looking forward to a weekend of decompressing and trying to get my body back to a healthy place. but I wanted to get back on here and get back into the routine of blogging, so seeing how today is the last day of February, I’ve rounded up this month’s favorites.

iPad mini with retina | my valentine’s day present from James to replace my broken one. this came in really handy on our 13-hour flights to and from Korea. I had the regular sized iPad previously, and I gotta tell you, I’m loving the mini version even more. I think the size is perfect – not too big, not too small. I settled on a clear back case and the grey smart cover on top to keep things streamlined.

beanpole card case | this baby is my souvenir from Korea, where beanpole is a local brand. I love the aesthetic – modern traditional – and the touch of whimsy with its penny farthing logo. I was looking for a small wallet with a place to put a handful of cards, a folded up bill, and some coins. that last bit is always the missing piece – most small wallets with a coin purse are almost always with a zipper enclosure all around (or so I’ve found), and once I saw this had a coin purse but still only had a snap enclosure, I was sold.

makeup | drugstore offerings have been insanely good these past few months. some standouts are the maybelline color sensational high shine lipglosses (shown in captivating coralgleaming grenadine, and raspberry reflections), the milani brilliant shine lipgloss in rose flush, and the wet n’ wild eyeshadow trio in sweet as candy. both of the lipglosses are non-tacky, minimally fragranced, and have great color payoff with decent staying power (as far as lipglosses go). the milani one is slightly thicker in feel on the lips than the maybelline ones, but both feel really nice on, quite similar to higher end lipglosses but for a fraction of the price. the eyeshadow trio was a lovely surprise – I was on the fence about using pink eyeshadow, but this looked like such a sweet combination in the pan and for $2.99, I decided to give it a go. again, I’m impressed by the formula – soft but not powdery, easy to blend, and good color payoff. I’ve been constantly reaching for it for an easy eye look.

porter magazine | this was such a fun magazine to read. aside from feeling and reading like a little bit of luxury (I love the feeling of good solid paper), the pictures were amazing, the interviews were spot on, and everything was just so sartorially inspiring. I enjoyed every page.

bag (not pictured) |  I forgot to include this in the picture, but I’ve been loving this Zara bag since I got it earlier this month. I’d been on the hunt for a navy bag, and while there were many higher end options that caught my eye, I didn’t actually want to spend that much money on one. even though this bag is not made of real leather, it looks quite nice in person. the combination of the saffiano texture with the structured shape makes it look sharp. I love that I don’t have to baby it like a real leather bag, is big enough for my essentials without tempting me to pack more, and has a shoulder strap of a length that is perfect for my short frame. Zara can be hit or miss for me, but this one was a definite hit.

have a good weekend!

I’m typing this from O’Hare, just a few minutes shy of boarding our flight to Korea. it’s going to be a little quiet here on the blog for the next two weeks. I’ll try to post pictures as much as I can, but wifi is a little hard to come by where we’re going. to keep up more in real time, you can check me out on Instagram.

one pair, two ways

when I saw these shoes on zara this morning, I quickly did a quick run through in my mind of 2 outfits I could pair it with (this is a test I often run in my mind whenever I’m contemplating a pair of shoes). for a dressier option, it would be a nice, edgier touch to an otherwise lady-like outfit of a pencil skirt  and a tank, with a pair of statement earrings to finish things off. the pair would work just as well with my uniform of sorts – a pair of skinny jeans, a simple top, and a leopard print clutch for a touch of sass.

these are definitely going to sit in my virtual shopping cart while I think about them some more. they’re definite contenders for a new spring/summer sandal to add to my closet, but I’ve got time. it’s not like I’m going to be wearing them any time soon with the weather around here…

happy Friday!

one pair, two ways is a new feature on short&lovely that takes one pair of lovely shoes and styles them two ways. because shoes should be easy to look at and easy to wear.

the most luxurious lip balm to ever grace my lips. it smells amazing (even though I’m not the biggest fan of rose scented things!), moisturizes so well, and leaves the prettiest, most natural pink tint on my lips. bonus: the packaging is so slim and chic. I picked this up on a whim using an unexpected gift card that assuaged my guilt at spending that much money on a lip balm.

but I have to say…I would definitely repurchase with my own money. sometimes, you just have to say #sorryI’mnotsorry.

*I don’t think this plumps at all. no tingling, no noticeable plumping of lips of any kind, which I actually prefer. if it hadn’t said plumping in its name, I never would have guessed.
